 Sikkim is a state full of great ethnicity.  today I will tell you about the Sikkim cuisine. The sikkim cuisine is a mixture of Nepalese, Tibetan and native Sikkimese food. The blend of of these leaves your taste buds tingling And leave you begging for more. Maize is one of the staple produce consumed in Sikkim. The cuisine of Sikkim is majorly non-vegetarian.

Here are some foods of Sikkim everyone needs to try.

1. MOMOS (dumplings)



Momos. Who doesn't love momos?The first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Sikkim is momos. Sikkim and momos are like partners in crime. they are always together. Momos are believed to be from tibetan cuisine modulated from the nepalese cuisine. Momos are the lifeline of Sikkim. Momos is a type of a steamed dumpling filled with meat or vegetables. The cover is made of dough of white flour and water while the inside is filled with exotic spices and flavours and meat or vegetables depending on one's preference.


2. DHINDO


Dhindo is a sikkim food speciality that is quite popular amongst the locals and tourists. The dish originates from Nepal, but is quite a rage in many parts of Sikkim and Darjeeling as well. Dhindo is prepared by boiling water and slowly pouring in buckwheat, ground millet or cornflour. The mixture is then continuously stirred until a sticky paste is formed. The paste is rolled into balls, dipped into lentil soup or chutney and swallowed since the millets stick between the teeth. This dish is consumed on a daily basis in Sikkim and Nepal.


3. PHAGSHAPA


A culinary delight for the non-vegetarians, Phagshapa is a much-loved food item in Sikkimese cuisine. The main ingredient for this dish is the pork fat that is accompanied by radishes and red chillies. The pork fat strips are cooked first and kept separate. While preparing the stew with radishes and spices, the pork is added along with the red chillies to provide a hot and spicy tinge to the dish. The entire preparation has no oil and combines just the vegetables and protein, making it a healthy food choice. Because of its burst of flavors and being a healthy option, it is considered by many the best food in Sikkim that one can relish.

4. DAL BHAT


Dal Bhaat is a traditional Napalese dish that is quite a craze in many parts of Nepal, Bangladesh, and India. The combination is that of boiled rice and lentil soup. The Sikkimese population love their share of Dal Bhaat as their everyday meal.Dal Bhat is a staple food in Sikkim which is served with tarkari (vegetable curry) or meat and chutney. If you want to keep things simple and have light meals, Daal Bhaat could be your ultimate choice of food item to relish.

5. THUKPA


Thukpa is a kind of noodle soup of Tibetan origin that has found its way to being one of the most loved food in Sikkim. Thukpa is something that is very healthy and tasty at the same time - a rare combination to find, isn't it? One can find both vegetables as well as chicken thukpa here and mind you both are worth trying. Savor this amazing dish while you are in Sikkim.

6. SHA PHALEY 


Sha Phaley is a combination of the deep fried flavors, bread, and a whole lot of minced meat. Originally a Tibetan dish, it is quite famous in Sikkim as well. this dish is literally a heaven for your taste buds. Everyone loves bread, everyone loves meat, everyone loves the deep-fried stuff, and Sha Phaley has all three. The bread or the pastry is stuffed with a mixture of ground beef, cabbage, and spices. It is then folded into semi circles and finally deep fried to perfection. The outcome is a crispy pastry with soft flavorful filling inside.
